BRUTAL dictator Robert Mugabe has died aged 95 after battling ill health, it has been confirmed today.
The former Zimbabwe president - whose bloody reign of terror crippled his country over almost four decades - passed away in Singapore surrounded by his family including wife Grace.
It is believed he had been receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness since April, with reports in November last year that he had been unable to walk.
On leading Zimbabwe to independence from Britain in 1980, Mugabe had been feted as an African liberation hero and champion of racial reconciliation.
But after nearly four decades of brutal power-hungry leadership, he was regarded by many as a tyrant, willing to unleash death squads, rig elections and trash the economy in the relentless pursuit of power.
Under his rule, Zimbabwe suffered economic ruin with runaway inflation, mass unemployment and fuel shortages.
