President Donald Trump presented NBA Hall of Famer Jerry West with the Presidential Medal of Freedom on Thursday, September 9, 2019.
West is the sixth professional athlete to whom Trump has presented the highest civilian honour in the U.S.
He became a 14-time NBA all-star and led the Los Angeles Lakers to the NBA Finals nine times and was co-captain on the U.S. Olympic basketball team that won gold in 1960.
A silhouette of West was the inspiration for the NBA's logo.
