BCSO is currently at a scene off of NW 216th Street outside of Lawtey. We were called to the residence in reference to an adult male having some type of mental health concerns. When two deputies arrived they attempted to make contact with the subject who had armed himself with a rifle. The subject opened fire on the deputies striking the vehicles they were using for cover. When deputies returned fire they struck the subject. The deputies rendered first aid until EMS arrived. The subject was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. FDLE has been requested to investigate the incident.
