The House Armed Services Committee heard testimony from Defense Department officials about active duty troop deployment and military support along the southern border. The Pentagon representatives answered questions about the Homeland Security Department’s request for support at the border, the jobs carried out by troops deployed there, and why it was necessary for active duty troops to perform these tasks instead of National Guard or Reserve troops who, over the past few decades, were more typically used in this type of support role.
