On the January 29, 2019 episode of SmackDown Live, WWE Champion Daniel Bryan and his new enforcer Rowan threw the standard leather-bound title belt in the garbage and introduced a new custom belt made from hemp and wood. AJ Styles would then confront Bryan, as would Randy Orton, Samoa Joe, Jeff Hardy, and Mustafa Ali. They would then begin to brawl, and WWE COO Triple H appeared on the Titantron to announce that Bryan would defend his title against Styles, Joe, Hardy, Orton, and Ali in an Elimination Chamber match at the pay-per-view
