Brexit vote LIVE: Theresa May given MAJOR boost as MPs vote to REPLACE Irish backstop

Earlier the Prime Minister saw her hopes of getting her withdrawal agreement through Parliament have been boosted after MPs rejected a cross-party amendment tabled by Labour MP Yvette Cooper which calls on the Government to request the delay of article 50 by 321-298 – but MPs also approved another calling for her to rule out a no-deal Brexit. Speaking earlier in the Commons, Prime Minister Theresa May dismissed Ms Cooper's amendment, as well as another submitted by former attorney general Mr Grieve which would have allowed Parliament to take control of the Brexit process. There had been hints of a possible deal between the two warring wings of the Conservative Party in what is being dubbed the “Malthouse compromise” after Tory MP Kit Malthouse, which advocates claim could be the key to cutting through the gridlock that has characterised the process so far.
